In the current global context of renewed economic growth, the MENA region has not yet reached its full potential to create wealth and provide better opportunities for its young population. Drawing on shared experiences from MENA and OECD countries, the discussions will focus on building more competitive economies in the region and ensuring that adequate governance arrangements result in more inclusive and resilient societies.

This is the first meeting of the Steering Group after the MENA-OECD Ministerial Conference of Tunis in October 2016, which launched the fourth mandate of the Initiative for 2016-2020. The meeting was opened by high-level representatives from the OECD and the Tunisian co-chairmanship of the Initiative.

The main objectives of the meeting will be to:

  • have strategic discussions on global and regional trends
  • assess the MENA-OECD Initiative’s programme of policy dialogue and technical collaboration for 2017
  • discuss the MENA-OECD Initiative’s programme of work for 2018
