The Second meeting of the Advisory Committee was held in the OECD headquarters in Paris on 29 September back to back with the International Forum on Open Government.

Efficiency, accountability, openness, and transparency of the public sector in both MENA and OECD countries are necessary to face the ongoing economic and societal challenges triggered by the economic crisis. Public officials need to have the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute to these national efforts and to effectively implement the initiatives governments have identified to stimulate the economy while regaining citizens’ trust. The International community has thus a role to play in accompanying MENA countries in the successful implementation of their ongoing public sector reform agendas.

The MENA-OECD Governance Programme Centre has the ambition to be at the forefront of the international efforts to assist the MENA region in these crucial moments. The extensive network of senior experts it can mobilise and the wealth of knowledge available from its members are a unique strategic resource at the service of public and private sectors and of civil society activists in MENA and OECD countries.

Following the proposals and key-recommendations received during the first meeting of the Advisory Committee, the aim of this meeting was to evaluate the vision, objectives and calendar of activities of the Centre against the current situation of the region and, thanks to the expert opinion of the members of the Committee, align it with its current priorities.

To this purpose, a document highlighting the Centre’s Strategic Orientations has been presented and debated along with MENA and OECD members countries’ evaluations and suggestions.
